New (sort of) Hobby

So today I discovered something new that I enjoy doing. It is randomly enough, mowing the lawn. Since I have four brothers it's something I've never really personally had to do. I did it a time or two when I was younger but it never really got too far before I gave up. So today I decided that I need to mow the lawn. I started doing the front yard and saw that my lines weren't very straight so I fired myself and let my brother finish. After he finished though I decided that I would do the back yard. It was quite the work out and I really enjoyed doing it. The lines aren't very straight but I think I did pretty good for a first timer. I may even do it again before the summer's over!

All You Need is Love

So this may seem really random but that's okay because it pretty much is. One day when I was closing at work we decided to start playing love songs after dark on FM100. We discovered though that it was a bad idea to start playing them before we actually closed. Right after we started playing them, customers started coming in like crazy. Not just any people, pretty much everyone that came in was male. It was a little freakish. We didn't really know what to think. But yeah, think what you will but that's that.

Gratitude

So I've decided that I have a lot to be grateful for. I have a wonderful family and wonderful friends, I couldn't ask for better. I am also very grateful for the opportunity that I have to get an education. Along with that I get the the opportunity to go institute which is AMAZING! I have had wonderful teachers that always seem to teach what I need to learn. I love that about the gospel. The Lord is aware of each of our needs and he will put the people in our lives that we need to help us, and will also put us in the lives of those that we need to help. I am so grateful for all of that.

Creepy Old People

So there has been something on my mind that I have felt like ranting about for a while now, and I am now finally doing so. As I go on vacations to places outside of Utah during the summer, I have noticed something that is majorly disturbing. For some reason old people feel like they have the need to wear tank tops. This just really grosses me out because most of the old people that are wearing the tank tops have been wearing them their whole lives and as such have really nasty skin, yet they still feel the desire to show that off which is nasty in and of itself. Then there is also the problem that women in particular have relief society arms. Relief Society arms+nasty skin= GAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That really should not be allowed. Then old men just have nasty arms and a lot of times they have hair hanging out of their pits which really just makes me want to barf! In conclusion old people should just be banned from wearing tank-tops. Sorry it's grammatically incorrect but, I don't care I just felt the desire to rant.

It's Autumn Time

I absolutely love fall time!!!! It is hands down my favorite season of the year. Here are a few reasons why:
  • The weather starts cooling down. I realize that most people hate it when this happens, but I love it because that means I get to whip out all of my blankets and sleep in my nice warm bed. It's pretty much the most heavenly thing ever.
  • The leaves start changing colors. There is nothing more beautiful to me than seeing all the beautiful colors of fall all around me. It makes me so happy.
  • Then there's also the plus that it's my birthday!!! And this year it's a BIG one. I turn 21. I'm not too sure how I feel about that because it means I have to make some big decisions quick, but it also means a lot more freedom. I can be treated as a full fledged adult and the part I'm most excited about, I can buy alcohol.
  • Thanksgiving time!!!!!! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays if not my favorite. It's up there with Christmas but it might be ahead. Thanksgiving is always a lot of fun. My family usually does a few things together but the best part is when we get together with the extended family at Grandma and Grandpa Olpin's. My family has to be the best family ever. There is always the best food and good memories made.
There are a few more random reasons that fall makes me happy, but those are the main reasons. I'm so happy I love this time of year!!!!!!!!!!!

Life

So it's been a while since I've done this but I'm horrible at writing in my journal so why shouldn't I be horrible at this. Life has been rather eventful since my last post. However, I am just going to talk about my school schedule for this semester.

This semester is my last semester of generals which for most people is a good thing but for me: not so much. As I am about the most indecisive person on this planet I have not yet chosen a major and after this semester is over I can't really stall any longer and really need to choose. Since only one of my classes is a GE requirement I have 3 elective classes to get my 12 credits in.

I am taking Ethics and Values which is required and probably the most worthless class on the face of the planet. Then I'm also taking college success which is a class with a bunch of freshman learning how to adjust to college life but I think it will be good for me anyway, stress management because I want to learn better ways to cope with stressful situations in my life and also I am taking 7 habits of highly effective people which I think will be really good for me. Then I am also taking 2 institute classes which so far have been amazing. Hopefully all this will pay off and I will be able to choose a major at the end of this semester and be able to move on with my life instead of being stuck in limbo as far as school goes.

Wedding
So yesterday my older brother Joey got married for time and all eternity in the Mt Timpanogas Temple. It was really super weird and I am still trying to get used to the idea. But I am still excited for him. Along with the marriage I got a sister. This is something that I have waited for my whole life so I am very excited. In fact when my youngest two little brothers were born I wanted to throw them in the trash can since they weren't girls. That's how bad I've wanted a sister. I knew the only way I would get one was through marriage so now that it has happened I'm super excited. Yay for Jennifer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Life
Well it's been awhile. Life has been crazy since my last post. But I have also been amazingly blessed since then so it's all good. Starting with the engagement of my older brother. The day before Thanksgiving my older brother got engaged and his wedding is this saturday. Watching all of the wedding plans come together has given me a testimony of eternal families. I'm so grateful that since my parents were married and sealed in the temple our family can be forever. I wouldn't want to be without any of them.

Another thing that has happened is I have gained a major testimony of the institute program. I was on the brink of failing my math class. It is definitely a miracle that I did pass. I had a C going into the final exam. I know the only reason that I passed the class is because I attended institute. If i wouldn't then the promise from the prophet would not have pulled through and I would not have passed. Truly amazing! I am so grateful for institute and all that it has done for me and especially for the gospel in my life. It has shaped me into who I am.

Halloween

Well halloween was full of all sorts of excitement. It started at 4:30 am. I got up early so that I could get off of work early and party the rest of the night. So since I got up so early I needed sugar to keep myself awake so I bought some donuts. Those kept me going all through out the day (at least until 2 when I got off).

So after I got home we had our traditional Halloween dinner of pizza. Then I went to a party and had more pizza. Then I came home and had the traditional donuts and cider. I was so sick of donuts after yesterday. So today when I woke up, needless to say I didn't feel very good because of all the donuts that I had eaten. Not very pretty at all. Then it felt ten times worse because it was fast sunday so I couldn't eat anything healthy so after eating a nutritious dinner and watching the CES fireside I felt much better.

Sorry this makes no sense

School

This semester is going to be interesting. I'm only taking 13 credits but the classes are going to be pretty demanding. I'm taking english 2010, math 1050, history 1700, and geology 1010. Despite the difficulty of the classes it should be fun. I'm excited.

Life

So these past couple of weeks have been crazy! First there was my Olpin family reunion which was amazing! I'm pretty bummed that I didn't win the rook tournament though. I've never been able to clench a victory and it's starting to drive me out of my mind. Maybe next year will be my year.

Then there was the weekly first ward game night. We were over at UVU playing night games. Apparently that was a really bad idea. We were playing a game that's like kick the can. There are bases that you have to run to and then you have to make it back to the middle before the person who is "it" sees you. While the person is counting you run to the different bases and when they stop you have to hide so they won't see you. So right when the girl that was "it" finished counting the cop showed up and saw us all duck. Obviously he thought we were hiding from him and kicked us off the field.  So we went back to the church to finish our game.

Next there was the 24th of July/ my little brother Justin's birthday. So I got to party all day there and end the day with fantastic fireworks.

I think the most interesting thing of all happened yesterday though. There is a lady that just turned 100 in my home ward and I got the privilege of spending the day with her yesterday. She told me quite a few stories that were entertaining. There were a couple of times though that she couldn't remember where she was so it was really interesting trying to explain to her that she was safe at home. There was also a moment when she couldn't figure out who I was and what I was doing at her house. I thought she would beat me up with her walker but she didn't  so it was all good once I explained to her that I was there to see her.

That has been my life the past couple of weeks! :D

4th of July

The 4th was pretty much amazing. I really didn't think it would be since I had to work instead of partying all day but it was still great. Even being at work ended up being a blast. We were really slow so we played video games. It was AWESOME! Closer to the time of close it got busier. Go figure! I hate it when that happens but I could do a whole post venting on that. So i got out of there at about 8:30.

After that came the best part of the 4th of July. Fireworks:D. My family and I went over to my aunt and uncle's house to watch the fireworks. There was a little neighborhood firework show before the stadium of fire fireworks. Both were really cool and really fun to watch and made the day a ton of fun.

Random question for thought

Why is the word abbreviation so long?

Spring Break

I am so excited for Spring break this week. School is so stressful it will be nice to get a break from it. I've got a lot of homework to do though. Oh well at least I won't be getting anymore.

Friday, May 11, 2007

From the middle of August to the end of May we are given assignments to do yet every year at the time of spring break students will start to slack off on their work. Why is that? Why is it that some students are so good about being on task and getting work done but around the same time every year they stop? The only reason I can come up with is spring fever. When the weather starts to get nice most people would rather be outside enjoying themselves as opposed to inside writing a paper or doing math problems. The only problem with this is, about the time that students start having spring fever, the end of the year is approaching, which means finals. Instead of staying inside and studying so that they can do well, they are outside playing. You can't totally take away credit, their are some people that do stay inside and study, but half the time their minds are elsewhere. If school can just end a little bit earlier than I think that most students would perform better because they would be able to focus more. However, seeing as how that will never happen, students just need to hold on and not let the weather get the better of them.

Why do some people get road rage so easily?

A couple of weeks ago when I was on my way to work somebody stopped in the middle of the intersection to yell at another driver. When this happened I started wondering what in the world the poor person could have done to get yelled at. I mean seriously, when your driving down the road how many people do you see doing everything perfect. There's always somebody on the road doing something wrong. I personally think that the main reason people are so quick to anger out on the road is because they don't realize that they've probably done the exact same thing before. Granted, when somebody cuts you off you aren't going to automatically think of all the times that you cut someone else off, but you can control your anger. Obviously this is easier said than done. If people can control their anger on the road, then it can be a lot safer out there.

A lot of times when my youngest brother wants something he makes a point of getting it. It is so annoying yet it always seems to work. Why is that? Why do some people always give in to kids? In my opinion it's all about how the kids react to the situation. They aren't as dumb as people think, they always over exaggerate the situation just enough so that it's believable. Sometimes when I'm trying to get my little brother off of me I push him. Instead of just falling off the couch, he falls off the couch and rolls all the way down the stairs and yells, then I get in trouble. It isn't fun at all. Then I have to try to explain that I barely even touched the kid and a lot of times I don't even get out of punishment. You'd think that a simple solution to the problem would be to just ignore kids when they do things like that, but it's not as easy as you think it is. They go to extremes, whether it's like my brother going further than needed or a baby whining until picked up, they're going to do whatever is necessary to get what they want.

Why is it that people adjust rules for their own convenience?

Everybody has rules in their homes that they do not like at all. In fact if you like every rule that you have in your house there's probably something wrong with you. Since we don't really like these rules, from time to time we adjust them so that we do like them. One of the rules that most teenagers tend to bend is the curfew rule set in their homes. If you happen to walk in the door five minutes after you were supposed to be home and your parents are really strict on that, then you'll be spitting out about every excuse you can come up with to avoid punishment. However, if one of your other siblings happens to walk into the house after you, you want them to get the punishment that they deserve. Why is that? Why is it that people constantly do this type of thing. Once you narrow everything down, you can usually come to the conclusion that it was for a selfish reason. It's in our human nature to get everything we want and if that requires bending the rules to get it, then so be it. It's really sad but it's true. If there weren't any rules then that would be another disaster. If we can just learn to live with the rules that are given to us then life will be a lot better.

Time

Everyday we have 24 hrs. to accomplish all of our daily tasks. Some of those days it feels like it's already been 30 hrs . by noon, and other days you wonder what happened to the day because it went by so fast. Why is this? Why doesn't it feel like the day goes by at a normal pace? It's all about perception. If you're having a really fun day and you never want it to end, it's going to feel like it was gone in five hours. However, if you're having one of those days when you feel like it's never going to end, then you're going to be sitting there watch the seconds go by. That's really depressing though because on the fun days you want the time to feel like it's going by slower so that you can enjoy the activity longer, and you want the slow days to go by speedy quick. Oh well, to bad because that's not the way it works. So if on those slow days we don't want to feel like we're wasting our lives away to nothing, we just have to be optimistic and the time will go by much faster.

Why do we always prepare for the worst?

Almost everyday we are faced with things that we have to do, that we would rather not do. When it comes time to do that thing (take a test specifically,) pretty much all we do is complain. I know personally I try to find excuses not to thinking it will be the most horrible day ever. However, when it comes time to do the task we go in grudgingly and come out saying that it wasn't so bad after all. Why is it that we do that? Why can't we just go in with the attitude that it will turn out all right. I think that the main reason is preparation. A good majority of the time high school students don't always prepare for a test the way that they should so they don't feel very confident. After it's all over they come out feeling like they knew more than they thought they did, and the stress is off their backs. If we can just have a better attitude on life and the things that we are facing we can make life a whole lot stressful.
